Itinerary details

3 NIGHTS  GOLDEN CIRCLE

You’re off to an action-packed start with a private Golden Circle tour, encapsulating the spitting Strokkur geyser, the gushing Gullfoss waterfall (that can be seen in all its frozen glory in winter or in its full raging force in summer), and snorkelling along the Silfra fissure, between the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates in Thingvellir National Park.

Stay at the cosy Hotel Grimsborgir afterwards – the perfect place for adventure lovers who want a corner of comfort near hot springs, glaciers and volcanoes.

1 NIGHT  THORSMORK

Onto a giddying high-altitude escapade, you’ll be taken from Hotel Grímsborgir to Thorsmork, a ridge that sits between two glaciers and was named after the Norse god Thor. You’re in for the glamping experience of a lifetime at Volcano Huts in the mountainous Thorsmork Nature Reserve, with a thrilling snowmobile ride included. A day-long safari by 4x4 takes you across volcanic deserts and through the streams that stem from the Eyjafjallajokull glacier, carving a network of passages on the volcanic rocks of the Stakkholtsgja Ravine.

2 NIGHTS  VIK

Venture south to explore the luminous Jokulsarlon icebergs, black sandy beaches and gushing waterfalls with your private guide. This gives you the chance to maximise your time and fit in as much of the gems of the southern coast as possible while staying at the beautiful Skalakot Manor, which offers a perfect opportunity to ride Icelandic horses in a stunning setting.

See the resident puffins in Myrdalur Valley and feel the force of the legendary Seljalandfoss and Skogafoss waterfalls - and if you’re feeling particularly brave, edge behind the flowing chute of Seljalandfoss for some epic photos.

The black beaches you stop off at on the way to Skaftafell National Park (where Iceland’s highest mountain is found) are also very camera friendly but the most photo-worthy spot is saved until last: a boat ride on the ethereal Jokulsarlon Glacier Lagoon, where you may even snap a photogenic seal lazing on an iceberg.

1 NIGHT  REYKJAVIK

Spend a night in Iceland's buzzing capital, Reykjavik, staying at the swanky Art Deco Hotel Borg.

Got the guts to head down into a volcano? This exhilarating adventure offers an extra dose of adrenaline for those after more than the been-there-done-that activities. Iceland is a geological hotspot which makes it the top destination to see some volcanoes in action, but the Thrihnukagigur volcano, which you will be descending, is dormant (so rest assured that it is completely safe). After a 45-minute hike, you’ll be lifted down inside the crater by cable lift into an exciting, lesser-explored subterranean world.

Finally, there is no better place than the misty milky-white waters of the famous Blue Lagoon to catch your breath on your final day before you catch your flight. A trip to Iceland is not complete without a soak in this mineral-rich geothermal spa in the Grindavik lava fields. Let go of the fatigue of this active holiday - relieve sore muscles while basking in the warm water and stunning mountain views before heading home.
